Ice hockey women start “well prepared” in the World Cup

The German ice hockey women go into the World Cup in Denmark (25 August to 4 September) with a lot of self-confidence.

“We are well prepared, but we have to perform again on Thursday so that we can win the game,” said national coach Thomas Schädler before the start (3:30 p.m.) against Hungary in Frederikshavn.

The DEB selection, which won both preparatory games in Füssen against Hungary (1-0 and 2-1), traveled to Denmark with 23 players on Sunday. Other opponents in Group B are Sweden on Saturday, the Czech Republic on Monday (both 3:30 p.m.) and the hosts Denmark on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.). On Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) the dress rehearsal against the Czech Republic is still on the agenda.

“It was noticeable that the players had a break of almost nine months without an international competition. That’s why the two friendlies against Hungary did us a lot. But I don’t want to overrate the two wins in the friendlies,” said Schädler. Defender Daria Gleißner added: “We prepared intensively for the World Cup here in Füssen and came together as a team. The atmosphere in the team is good.”
