LIVE | Kaag drops out sick at the nitrogen debate in the House of Representatives | Inland

Our reporter Mike Muller follows the debate. Follow his live report at the bottom of this post.

The debate comes at the request of opposition leader Geert Wilders (PVV), who has already announced in advance that he will submit a motion of no confidence against a cabinet that, according to him, no longer even trusts each other.

Hoekstra’s statements, who said, among other things, that the government’s goal to achieve the nitrogen targets by 2030 is ‘no longer sacred’ to him, already caused considerable unrest in The Hague before the end of the summer. Other coalition parties were not charmed, to say the least, at how Hoekstra seemed to withdraw from the agreements in the coalition agreement. According to Prime Minister Mark Rutte, it was on the verge of constitutional law.

Hoekstra also said that about 10 billion euros is needed for purchasing power repair. Many opposition parties have wanted a debate on the subject for some time, but that has so far been blocked by the coalition. Now that purchasing power can still be discussed, this has to be done without Minister Kaag. He is ill and cannot be there on Tuesday.
