No one made a secret of the fact that VfB would not put any obstacles in the way of the winger if he made a suitable offer. There is a transfer fee of 20 million euros plus bonuses in the room. According to media reports in Italy of “Sky sports” and Gianluca Di Marzio the clubs could also meet at 12 million euros plus bonus payments. This summer, other left-backs in Sosa’s age group, including David Raum (24, RB Leipzig), Oleksandr Zinchenko (25, Arsenal) and Marc Cucurella (24, Chelsea), switched for fees of between 26 million and 65 million euros.
VfB sports director Sven Mislintat said on “Sky” in mid-July: “This market has not yet got going. No jigsaw piece left-back has changed since then. I think a big issue could be that if Cucurella changes, then this position in the European market will take off.” The left-back carousel has turned, but the financially strongest clubs have not knocked on VfB’s door.
Sosa, whose contract runs until 2025, has been one of the best in the Bundesliga at left-back for the past two seasons, boasting 18 assists and becoming the second most valuable player at VfB after Kalajdzic. In addition to Bergamo, Lazio Roma and West Ham United are also said to be interested in Sosa.
