Ons Dorp: Hollywood in 1942 of wooden summer houses Callantsoog

During World War II in 1942, the Germans worked on coastal defenses to resist an Allied invasion. Entire coastal villages were evacuated for the construction of the Atlantic Wall and the residents evacuated. Callantsoog also had to believe it. Petten had already been razed to the ground and fearing that nothing would remain of their village either, the inhabitants of Callantsoog demolished dozens of wooden summer houses to rebuild them in a safe place. For this they were given ten days by the Germans. Thus was born the emergency village that was called Hollywood.
