It’s not uncommon for stars to have a mind of their own. Kylian Mbappé’s ego seems to have become particularly pronounced in recent weeks and months.
At 5: 2 from Paris St Germain against HSC Montpellier last weekend the French footballer showed his very own interpretation of team spirit.
When the Parisians counterattacked – new signing Vitinha had the ball at his feet – Mbappé offered himself on the left side. But Lionel Messi also intervened in attack on the right.
The Portuguese opted for a pass to the Argentine. Mbappé then presented himself as a real diva: he waved it off, finished his run and just walked listlessly across the lawn.
Penalty missed – no problem
Mbappé had been conspicuous before. First he missed a penalty. However, this circumstance did not seem to have any influence on the attacker’s self-confidence.
He also wanted to take the next penalty kick, which was denied by his teammate Neymar. The Brazilian started himself – and converted.
The relationship between the two PSG superstars shouldn’t have been the best for some time anyway. The fact that after the game Neymar liked a tweet from a fan who saw Neymar as the first penalty taker and not Mbappé shouldn’t have helped the Frenchman in a better mood either.
New hierarchical claims?
According to the French sports newspaper L’Equipe the club management even scheduled a meeting this week – which can probably also be understood as a crisis summit. In addition to the two protagonists, coach Christophe Galtier and sports director Luis Campos should also take part.
From the club’s point of view, there is obviously an acute need for action – in order not to jeopardize sporting success. The big goal, winning the Champions Leaguehas been PSG’s top priority for a number of years.
After Mbappé’s contract was extended last May, the hierarchical claims within the team have apparently shifted. Mbappé is said to receive a rumored net salary of 100 million euros and a signing bonus of 200 million euros.
This contract for the Frenchman, who surprisingly committed himself to PSG until 2025 despite intensive courtship from Real Madrid, should have further strengthened Mbappé’s already strong self-confidence.
He doesn’t see his teammates as world footballers
Mbappé was recently told by the French sports newspaper who were the three biggest favorites for him this year for the unofficial world footballer award Ballon d’Or France Football asked. “My top three? I would say: Benzema, me and Mané”, Mbappe replied. About his teammates: not a word.
