Uefa Player of the Year: Roma Pellegrini 13th

The captain of Mourinho’s team ranks 13th in the “Men’s Player of the Year” ranking

On 25 August 2021 Lorenzo Pellegrini, who still had to renew his contract with Roma (he would have done so in October), received a great investiture from Josè Mourinho: “If I had three I would let them play all three”. They had been working together for less than two months, but Mou already understood everything. Not surprisingly, the Roma captain had the best season of his career with him. Ended with the victory of the Conference League in Tirana, he has had a further appendix in these hours: Pellegrini, in fact, is the only Italian present in the Uefa Men’s Player of the Year ranking, that is the best players of the past year.

Lorenzo got 5 points, which put him in thirteenth place. But this is an extremely exclusive ranking, for which a Uefa team had independently chosen the 15 strongest players in Europe, then giving the possibility to vote them to a jury. In the first three positions there are, in this exact order, Karim Benzema (extra favorite also for the Golden Ball), Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne. They will be competing for the final victory which will be announced on August 25 in Istanbul. Phenomenal players and already being in the same ranking with them is a huge satisfaction for Pellegrini. A nice way to end last season but, above all, the best way to start the new one.
