Oscar winner Diane Keaton says she was unaware of the Godfather’s plot when she applied for a role in the mafia film.
“The kindest thing I think anyone ever did for me is get me a part in The Godfather before I even read it,” the 76-year-old told industry magazine People. “I didn’t know anything.”

She was auditioning for many roles at the time, Keaton explained. “I had to find work.” It wasn’t until she landed her role as Michael Corleone’s girlfriend, Kay Adams-Corleone, that she read Mario Puzo’s novel based on the film.
Keaton stars in Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather saga alongside Al Pacino, who plays Corleone himself, and Marlon Brando, among others.
