JD Sports has announced that newly appointed chairman Andrew Higginson has bought nearly £400,000 worth of shares in the British retailer.

The former Morrisons manager bought 292,725 shares at 132.67p and a further 6,217 shares at 132.32p, bringing the total to nearly £400,000.

Higginson joined JD Sports last month, taking over from Peter Cowgill, who left the company after a protracted dispute with the UK competition regulator.
