August Carillon month in the city with special attention to The Beatles | NOW

On August 11, 1968, The Beatles released Hey Jude out, one of their most successful singles ever. On Thursday 11 August 2022, the August Carillon Month will be dominated by The Fab Four.

City carillonneur Paul Maassen will play contemporary arrangements of songs from the Beatles’ repertoire from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., including blackbird, Michelle and With a little help from my friends. This oneevergreens are translated to the 14,000 kilogram carillon of the Great Tower, and are cast in a sometimes less recognizable shape.

Linked to this tribute to The Beatles is a photo contest: take a Breda zebra crossing photo, such as the famous image of The Beatles at Abbey Road, and share it on social media with the addition @torenbreda. The winner deserves a special VIP tour.

During the annual Carillon Month, carillonneurs from home and abroad play the carillon of the Great Tower every Thursday evening. The festival was opened on August 4 by Jasper Depraetere.
