“Karel was literally ‘on death row’”: Martine Prenen introduces her dogs in ‘Kende Vierlevoeters’ | showbiz

Martine Prenen (58) also knows that dogs are your best friend. In the HLN Original ‘Bekende Viervoeters’ she tells how much love she gets from her animals, the very elderly Sokki and the sick Karel from Romania. “When a woman started to cry, she put her head on her lap.”

Laurence Van Tongerloo visits health coach and presenter Martine Prenen. He has two dogs, 13-year-old Sokki and 6-year-old Karel. The latter comes from Romania, says Martine. “He was literally ‘on death row’. They were going to euthanize him because he has a lung condition. He would only be six months old.” Karel has therefore amply exceeded his life expectancy. “In the beginning he was very anxious,” it sounds. “We thought: it won’t get older than half a year, so let’s have a good time. So he is not raised, he does everything he feels like. He is incredibly spoiled.”

Sokki is again a sensitive soul. “She’s incredible. I once had a women’s circle in this garden, under my oak. We were meditating in a circle. I hadn’t seen it, but there was one woman who was crying very softly. Suddenly I feel Sokki come past me and step into the circle, which is actually not allowed. She lies down in front of that woman, with her head in her lap. I was like, ‘You’re so sweet.’”

The dogs have thoroughly changed Martine. “I say every year: this year I’m going to go less fast, but then I’ll keep going,” it sounds. “And then they come and sit with me, with their heads on their laps so that I cannot leave. Voila, delay.”
