Silent journey for woman killed by stalker in Roermond

A silent march will be held in Roermond on Tuesday evening for the woman who was shot dead in her home last Wednesday evening by a man who was stalking her. The trip is organized by the dead woman’s family.

The trip is meant “to share our grief with everyone who needs it,” the woman’s family said on Facebook. The procession leaves Tuesday evening at 8.30 pm from the parking lot of the hospital, where the woman worked, to her home at Kasteel Hillenraedtstraat in the Donderberg district, where she was shot. There is a moment of silence in front of the house. Then everyone can put down a flower or card.

“We have the express wish to walk this tour in the company of friends and acquaintances, without the press,” said the family. “We count on respect for this decision.”

Multiple death threats

The police received a report last Wednesday evening that someone in a house at the Kasteel Hillenraedtstraat in Roermond was said to be suicidal. When officers arrived, they heard gunshots inside the home and called for backup. Once inside, officers found the two bodies of the resident and the man. No one else was in the house. No one else was involved in the shooting, police said.

The man had stalked the woman, police confirmed. According to family and friends, it has been a long time since the woman broke off the relationship with the man. The man would then have threatened her with death several times.

Police have now closed the investigation into the shooting, a police spokeswoman said on Monday. It made no further announcements about its conclusions. There are still talks with the authorities involved in the case.
