KangaROOS embodies creativity, openness and speed. The company combines a sporting heritage with an ethos that values the original and unforeseen, allowing it to create everything from running shoes to lifestyle items.
origins
Bob Gamm, a passionate jogger and architect, founded KangaROOS in 1979 with the aim of bringing an innovative product to market. First, he designed a pair of shoes with a small zippered pocket that he could use to stash a key and some coins while exercising.
KangaROOS was inspired by the kangaroo because it never looks back, only forwards, has a pocket and can jump almost 8 meters per step while running.
KangaROOS was one of the first sports brands to sponsor basketball players, soccer players, hockey teams and marathon runners.
development
In the 1980s, KangaROOS became one of the top five performance brands in the US. The shoe brand started with "The Original Shoes With Pockets" and then decided to line up their product line with the "The COMBAT"-model that also features the iconic kangaroo logo.
Because the label always wanted to adapt and offer the best possible shoe, Gamm opened the KangaROOS laboratory at the University of Illinois, USA, to test athletic shoes. KangaROOS worked with NASA engineers to "DYNACOIL" to develop a 3D woven coil fabric technology to create the best shoe for demanding runners.
In the 1990s, KangaROOS introduced clothing collections and shoes for the fashion, leisure and outdoor sectors.
Current
Today, KangaROOS is a global urban lifestyle brand that sells accessories, apparel and footwear in over 60 countries.
