The robbery that took place on Sunday night in a house on Grevenschutweg in the outskirts of Valkenswaard was only a few minutes’ work. That’s what a neighbor of the victims says. After the robbery, he found the beleaguered man and woman deeply distressed.
The neighbor woke up about half past twelve. “From glass shattering, when the neighbor’s window popped out. Then I heard them screaming.”
“It was a minute’s work, just in and out again.”
He didn’t realize at first that there was a robbery. “They are old people who live there. Maybe one of them fell against the window, I thought at first. I immediately flew there. It turned out that something else was going on.”
When he arrived, the two or three robbers had already fled. “We are really talking about minute work,” he emphasizes. “Just in and out again. I think they noticed that I was coming. That the light went on in our house and that the dog was barking. Then they lubricated him very quickly.”
“They should try this on me!”
He found his neighbours, who, according to the police, fiercely defended themselves against the robbers. “These are people of about eighty years old. Then I think: they should do that with me! I’m not that scared. Abusing older people, you motherfuckers!”
The residents were taken to a hospital after the robbery, but were allowed to return home on Monday morning. “My wife is going to visit them later. Their children were there just now, to clean up the glass and so on.”
It was not disclosed whether anything was stolen during the robbery. The police searched the area for the perpetrators, including with a helicopter, but they were not found.
