Young national athletes return from the World Championship with 4 medals



Turkey completed the Under-20 World Athletics Championship held in Colombia with a total of 4 medals, 2 gold and 2 silver, and achieved the best rank in this organization.


According to the statement made by the Turkish Athletics Federation, Turkey participated in the championship in Cali with 10 athletes and collected 32 points by winning 4 medals.


Having achieved the most successful results in the organization’s 37-year history, Turkey won gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles, İsmail Nezir and in the 10,000-meter walk, Mazlum Demir. Pınar Akyol in the shot put and Hayrettin Yıldız in the 10 thousand meter walk showed the success of winning the silver medal.


Meanwhile, Pınar Akyol became the first Turkish athlete to win a medal twice in this organization. At the same time, four Turkish records were broken in the youth category in the organization. Dilek Koçak became the new holders of Turkish records under the age of 18 in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters, Anthony Smith under 20 in the 200 meters, and İsmail Nezir in the 400 meters hurdles.
