The government of the state of Bahia and the federal government of Brazil, in cooperation with other states, sent additional personnel, aircraft and equipment to the affected areas on Saturday to provide assistance. “We are fully mobilized and are taking all necessary measures to support the victims of the heavy rains that hit Bahia this Christmas,” Bahia’s governor said in a video message.
In the state capital, Salvador, 250 millimeters of precipitation fell until Friday in December alone. That is five times more than normal according to the city council.
