The 19-year-old SV-TOP player Teun Elbers passed away unexpectedly on Friday during a holiday with his family. The club announced this on Saturday afternoon, which speaks of ‘intense sadness’.
“It has hit us extremely hard,” says chairman Frans Boon. According to Boon, the boy was on holiday in Italy with his parents and brother. What exactly happened there is not yet known at the club. That writes Dtv News.
Teun Elbers played in the first team for the youth under 19 last season. He already successfully participated in TOP Sunday 1 and TOP Saturday 1. Next season he would also join these teams.
“He was a social boy who chatted with everyone.”
Teun was also a valued youth trainer, says the club. He trained the first team of the youth under 13 and would make the switch this season as trainer of the youth team under 15.
“We got to know Teun as a great social boy who had a chat with everyone and made friends easily. Teun was a real TOP guest. We wish the family, friends and all other relatives of Teun all the best”, according to the association.
Hundreds of messages of support are pouring in on social media. The club is still thinking about a tribute.
