Football clubs Meppel in the waiting room for merger: ‘Relocation is a nice scenario’

It is anxiously quiet around the merger plans of football clubs FC Meppel, MSC and Alcides. And the clubs don’t like that. Because the quieter it gets, the greater the chance that the whole adventure will fail, while at the moment it still looks very promising. In order to get the municipality to the table quickly, the clubs want to tempt the municipality with relocation plans.

Shoes and shin guards belong in a football bag, but the bag of FC Meppel chairman Hans ter Voorde is getting fuller with other things. There are more and more ideas about the merger. For example, there is already a sketch of what the future sports park could look like. “We like a canteen with a stand in front of it.”

However, little progress has been made in the plans. The football clubs are in the waiting room because the municipality is not taking any steps, it is said. And that while the merger stands or falls with the support of the municipality.

He is well aware that Ezinge sports park – where the three clubs are now housed – is a very expensive piece of land. “We are located on the highway, which makes this land interesting for companies. The center is also close by, which makes it extremely suitable for housing construction. Project developers will queue for this A-location.”

“I would therefore understand very well if the municipality wanted to move us,” Lammerink continues. “If the municipality can earn money from this land and want to contribute with the profit to a new sports complex for us, further in the city, I think that is a nice scenario.”

“People like to build companies along the main road, and next to our field is a junction of highways,” adds FC Meppel chairman Ter Voorde, who also agrees with the clubs moving. “But it may also be possible to divide up Ezinge more efficiently. Then you can sell part of this area, and we simply move the fields closer together.”
