Archie (12) brain dead ‘after online challenge’: treatment may not be stopped after all | Abroad

Earlier on Sunday, it was announced that the hospital where the child has been in a coma since April had informed the parents by letter that it would stop treatment on Monday afternoon. The child’s mother had previously asked Health Secretary Steve Barclay to “take immediate action” against the hospital, saying stopping treatment would be “a flagrant violation of his rights.”

Archie Battersbee became the center of a legal dispute after being seriously injured at home in early April. According to his mother, he probably participated in an online challenge, in which participants deliberately try to become unconscious, British media write. His mother found her unconscious son with a band around his head. The child never recovered. In June, a judge already ruled that the treatment should be stopped, but the parents appealed, without success.

The last minute intercalated hearing, which will take place virtually, will start on Monday at 11 a.m. local time, i.e. at 12 noon Dutch time.
