Flap open, turn once, fuse out, flap closed. “Anyone can do something like that,” says Ralph Lügger (54).
On behalf of the city, he and his colleagues switch off the lights on Berlin’s landmarks. Reason: The capital wants to save electricity and be a role model! The spotlights say goodbye to around 200 objects for the time being.
It takes an hour at the Victory Column before Lügger and his team have all the headlights through. The master electrician on the BZ: “Unfortunately, we can’t even flip the big main switch because then the safety lights in the tunnel would also go out.”
Nobody can currently say when the Victory Column will be illuminated again…
