Billy Corgan writes song about Highland Park shooting

During a fundraiser for the victims of the July 4th Highland shooting, Billy Corgan sang two new songs. The live performance took place at a tea house near the crime scene and was broadcast online. “Photograph” is directly inspired by misfortune.

Billy Corgan explained that he wrote the play after dreaming about the killing spree that happened on America’s Independence Day. The goal of the evening was to raise money for Corgan’s charity. Viewers could donate online. here is the complete performance.

Corgan played most of the songs alone. For a few numbers, however, he was joined by Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and touring bassist Sierra Swan. In addition to the new songs, songs by Corgan and Smashing Pumpins classics such as “Today” were also heard during the performance.

When the singer announced the concert months ago, he was already saying that the killing spree had shaken him deeply. “There are so many people here who have been affected by this tragedy,” Corgan and his partner Chloe Mendel said in an interview.

Gunman shot at parade

The killing spree took place during celebrations around the US National Day in the state of Illinois. A young man began shooting aimlessly at people who were part of an Independence Day parade. Six people died in the attack and 24 had to be taken to hospital.
