In all twelve municipalities of Drenthe, the number of inhabitants grew in the first six months of this year. This is evident from CBS figures. In percentage terms, the growth of 1.1 percent was greatest in Tynaarlo.
In absolute numbers Emmen grew the fastest with 729 new inhabitants. Drenthe grew by a total of 2709 inhabitants. According to the CBS, this growth is mainly caused by immigration, including refugees from Ukraine.

In the first half of 2022, the number of inhabitants of the Netherlands increased by almost 120,000. That is almost the same as the population growth in the first half of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 combined. At the beginning of June, the Netherlands had more than 17.7 million inhabitants.
About 195,200 people moved to the Netherlands in the first half of the year, compared to about 93,600 in the same months a year earlier. Most immigrants come from Ukraine. This is followed by Syria, Turkey, India and Poland.
