Striker Alexandra Popp shot Germany with two goals past France (2-1) on Wednesday, allowing her team to prepare for the final against host country England at Wembley. “I can’t think of anything more beautiful.”

“To be honest, I can hardly put it into words. We played another great game,” said the German star player. The VfL Wolfsburg striker is the top scorer of the European Championship with six goals and, thanks to her two goals, became the first player to score five European Championship matches in a row.

The German women have already won the European Championship eight times, but were last in the final in 2013. The final against Wiegman’s England is on Sunday at 6 p.m. and will be played in a sold-out Wembley.

“Yes, Sunday in front of 90,000 people at Wembley opposite England. I can’t think of anything more beautiful. This is great,” said Popp.

Germany has yet to lose a game in this tournament and reached the final with an impressive goal difference: thirteen for and only one goal against. National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is logically filled with pride by the place in the final, but also praises the team spirit.

“It is deserved, we have worked so hard for it. We have grown together during this tournament and have become a close team. We will do anything for each other,” she said.
