Second coffee shop robbery impresses neighborhood: “It’s getting worse”

Eleven days after the case was the target of an armed robbery, it was hit again last night at coffee shop The Snoop on the Rijksstraatweg in Haarlem. It is just before the closing time of midnight when a man walks into the store, threatens the employee with a knife and then runs off with the contents of the cash register. The police are investigating the matter and would like to contact any witnesses.

A passing resident said he was shocked by the news. “The crime is getting worse,” he says. “What is there to get? Everyone is pinning these days.”

A lady chatting with another resident on the street says she is concerned. “It’s just a shame because it just has a lot of impact on the people here.” Her interlocutor adds: “I wonder anyway what the need is for a coffee shop in the middle of a residential area. It’s bad because it is always a certain kind of people who come there.”

Police looking for witnesses

The police are investigating the case and are looking for witnesses. A description of the perpetrator has been issued: it concerns a man, dressed in a gray vest with a hood. During the robbery, his face was covered by a yellow crochet scarf. He also wore blue jeans and dark shoes. The municipality has announced that it will use extra police enforcement in the vicinity of the coffee shop. The coffee shop itself just opened this morning. The employee behind the counter says that he has only just learned about the robbery.

“Another incident in this neighborhood, it’s annoying”

local resident

The local resident says she is disappointed by yet another incident in her neighborhood. “It’s annoying,” she says. “It is a pleasant neighborhood, but this does have an influence.” She refers to a robbery at an ATM at a tobacco shop, a little further away, which caused enormous damage at the end of last year.

The owners are still working on restoring their shop, as can be seen from the wooden partitions in the windows. “You can still see the damage,” said the neighbor. “But whether the case has been solved, you don’t hear about that.” Another resident adds: “Those people have been without income for months. It’s terrible.”
