Just watch “Stranger Things” with your ex’s Netflix account? That may soon no longer be possible. The streaming giant is struggling with stagnant numbers and is looking to secure every type of revenue it can.
That’s why Netflix will soon charge an extra fee for additional households. This means that anyone who shares the account with people outside the household must pay. The rule will apply in some countries from August 22nd, but will be expanded later.
Netflix is changing the game in Argentina, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. “If your Netflix account is used on a TV outside of your home, you will need to pay $2.99 per month for each additional home,” the statement said site known.
It was emphasized that this fee is not automatically due. Netflix users must indicate that the account is shared by another household.
Netflix is getting more expensive
After a test phase in the countries mentioned, the fee should apply worldwide. Netflix users will have the option to add one, two, or three additional homes. In the United States, it should cost between $9.99 and $19.99. Whether the price will be unified later is unknown.
According to Netflix, there should also be exceptions to the rule. For example, if you are on vacation, you can use the Netflix account for two weeks without an additional fee.
