Motocross rider Brian Bogers has won the Grand Prix of Flanders in the MXGP. It was his first MXGP victory for the 25-year-old from Eindhoven. Bogers was the best in the first moto on the Lommel circuit and took third place in the second moto.
“This win is for my son,” Bogers, who became a father two weeks ago, beamed in front of the MXGP cameras afterwards. “I can’t describe this feeling and I still don’t really believe it. This is great,” he said.
In Lommel, Bogers took the podium with fellow provincials Calvin Vlaanderen from Westerhoven and Glenn Coldenhoff from Heesch, who took second and third place in the standings. Flanders finished in second place in both the first and the second heat. Coldenhoff finished fourth in the first moto and was the best in the second.
Slovenian Tim Gasjer, the world championship leader, took seventh place in the standings after two motos. Gasjer is still in the lead in the battle at the world championship (605 points). He is followed by the Swiss Jeremy Seewer (483) and the Spaniard Jorge Prado (465). Coldenhoff is the best Dutchman in the standings with 442 points and fourth place. Bogers occupies seventh place with 332 points, Flanders is eighth (312).
World champion Jeffrey Herlings will not play this season due to a foot injury.
