RB boss reacts to Laimer poker
RB Leipzig boss Oliver Mintzlaff commented on FC Bayern’s interest in Konrad Laimer (25) during the test match against Liverpool (0: 5). “I hope that Bayern will find other ideas than bringing in our top players every year,” he told “Servus TV” (quoted via “Leipziger Volkszeitung“).

Mintzlaff was referring to last summer, when sports director Hasan Salihamidzic used the then runner-up three times: Dayot Upamecano (23), Marcel Sabitzer (28) and trainer Julian Nagelsmann came in a package for around 80 million euros. All of Munich’s transfer expenses for the 2021/22 season thus flowed to Saxony. “Of course we want to not hand over our top players to Bayern every year – that already happened last year,” said Mintzlaff.

This time it should only be one with Laimer. According to reports, the record champions have already agreed with the midfielder, but an offer of 23 million euros was too low for the Leipzig team, even though Laimer’s contract expires in 2023. “It may also be that we keep him and go into a final year of the contract and sometimes don’t get a fee” (quoted via “picture“). That would be a first for RB, who are not known for letting such valuable players go for free. According to “Bild” information, one is ready to talk from 30 million euros. The negotiations would run through the consulting agency “ROOF”, which recently arranged Sadio Mané’s (30) change from Liverpool FC to Säbener Straße.
After Goretzka’s absence: FC Bayern need central midfield
At FC Bayern, after Leon Goretzka (27, knee surgery) was out for months, there is a need in central midfield and at Laimer Nagelsmann knows what he is getting. He also knew that when Sabitzer was transferred, but the first season didn’t go as hoped for either side. Laimer would be Leipzig’s fourth major arrival to Munich in a year – a number unparalleled among major clubs in Europe’s top leagues. “We’re not specifically weakening anyone,” assured club boss Oliver Kahn before the first meeting with Leipzig in early September 2021.
