Canadian sportswear retailer Lululemon is now featured on Chinese e-commerce site JD.com.
On July 18, the Vancouver-based yogawear specialist opened its digital flagship store featuring a selection of athletic and casual wear at J Shop, the upgraded JD fashion and lifestyle business.
“With the continuous improvement of the quality of life in China, the number of sports enthusiasts is growing significantly, and with it the demand for sports equipment,” according to JD.com. Lululemon’s popularity shows that the Chinese market values not only the quality of the products, but also the emotional connection between the consumer community and the brand.
To mark the Qi Xi Festival, often referred to as Chinese Valentine’s Day, which falls on August 4th this year, Lululemon has also introduced garments printed with the English word “Love”.
The launch on JD.com is the latest step in the sportswear brand’s international growth strategy. According to China Daily, the company plans to expand China into its second largest market by 2026. Lululemon announced plans to expand its current 71 stores in the country to 220 over the next five years.
