Cyclist (86) died after being hit in Amstelveen

An 86-year-old cyclist did not survive an accident on the Van der Hooplaan yesterday. The man collided with a car around 6 p.m. He later died in hospital from his injuries.

Police VOA (Traffic Accident Analysis) team spent at least four hours investigating the accident site last night. Traffic around the adjacent roundabout was stopped for a while so that braking tests could be done with the car, police officer Jim says in a vlog on Instagram.

Help during heat

Both the car and the bicycle were taken for further investigation. The driver was not injured, but was taken to the police station for questioning.

The police were caught in the heat during the investigation well helped by bystanderssays Jim. “We have been provided with bottles of water and cans of ice tea and people have put up umbrellas so we could work in the shade.” Footage also shows how someone follows the victim with a parasol, while he is pushed into the ambulance. In the video, the officer expresses his thanks to the bystanders.
