Pink Floyd are heading for higher regions in the UK Singles Chart with their new song “Hey, Hey, Rise Up!” The song peaked at number 49 after its digital release in April.
Now, according to a survey by First Look, which ranks singles based on sales and streaming activity during the early part of the chart week, the song is rocketing to No. 18 forecast this week in July. “Hey, Hey, Rise Up !” is possibly the first song in over 40 years to make it into the top 20 again after 1979’s “Another Brick In The Wall” – if the new single can stay that high. The band most recently reached the UK top 40 with “High Hopes/Keep Talking” (1994), which peaked at number 26.
“Hey, Hey, Rise Up!” was recorded on March 31 with proceeds going to charities. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now Putin’s mouthpiece, has named Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as one of his favorite bands in the past. Ironically, their new track serves as a musical support for the people of Ukraine and features vocals from Ukrainian musician Andriy Khlyvnyuk, member of the band Boombox. Pink Floyd musicians David Gilmour (guitar/vocals) and Nick Mason (drums) are joined by Guy Pratt (bass) and Nitin Sawhney (keyboards).
The clip reads, “Pink Floyd has teamed up with Andriy to support his message of resistance.” Check out the official music video here:
