Fraser-Pryce takes fifth world title at 100 meters, full Jamaican podium | NOW

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce became world champion in the 100 meters for the fifth time in the night from Sunday to Monday. With Shericka Jackson (silver) and Elaine Thompson-Herah (bronze) there was an all Jamaican stage in Eugene.

Fraser-Pryce clocked 10.67, which is 0.07 seconds slower than her best time ever. Jackson scored 10.73 and Thompson-Herah 10.81.

With her win at Hayward Field Stadium, 35-year-old Fraser-Pryce added a title to her impressive roster. Fifteen years ago she already took her first World Cup medal (silver) in Osaka with the Jamaican women in the 4×100 meters. In total, she is now on ten times World Cup gold, of which five times in the 100 meters.

The first time Fraser-Pryce became world champion in the 100 meters was in 2009 in Berlin and she also struck in 2013, 2015 and 2019. Fraser-Pryce was absent from the 2017 World Cup in London in August due to pregnancy. That month her son was born.

Fraser-Pryce approaches Bolt

Fraser-Pryce is approaching her legendary compatriot Usain Bolt with her tenth world title (five times 100 meters, once 200 meters and four times 4×100 meters).

Bolt won eleven world titles from 2009 to 2015 (three times 100 meters, four times 200 meters and four times 4×100 meters). He put an end to his impressive career in 2017.
