“Maybe certain things had to happen” – Lewandowski defends himself

The farewell to FC Bayern did not go smoothly. Robert Lewandowski has now spoken again – and justifies the way the change was made.

Robert Lewandowski has defended the many noises surrounding his move from FC Bayern Munich to FC Barcelona. “There were eight wonderful years here, so I hope that we can forget what happened in the past few weeks with some distance. There were unnecessary things, from both sides,” said Lewandowski of “Bild” on Sunday Interview. “I know the business, I know what was said and written. A lot was unnecessary, a lot of false rumours.”

Despite the contract until the end of June 2023 in Munich, Lewandowski had pushed for a move to Barcelona this summer. “My story at Bayern is over. It’s clear to me that the transfer is the best solution for both sides,” the world footballer announced at the end of May. FC Bayern has now sold the 33-year-old to the Spaniards for up to 50 million euros.

“I think both sides are happy now”

“I said that both sides did things that were unnecessary. But maybe certain things had to happen so that the change was possible in the end. I think both sides are satisfied now. Bayern get a lot of money, I can go Barcelona,” explained Lewandowski.
