B&B Full Love participant Desiree has had a confronting week. Her appearance in the program is met with scathing reactions. “She is a viewing figure snack for RTL.”
It’s the ultimate treat for any TV maker: personalities like Desiree are guaranteed to stir things up in viewers’ homes. As the date of Hans, who lives in Italy, the outspoken B&B Vol Liefde participant causes quite a bit of controversy. She would act rude in the program. One thing is certain: she is emphatically present.
nauseating
It gives Desiree an incredible amount of attention, but negative attention. She is completely killed off in the media and on all kinds of internet forums. Nice for RTL 4, because it is good for the viewing figures, but of course less fun for Desiree. She is suddenly massively judged on her personality.
People can’t believe she’s really that dominant. “Is Desiree hired for the ratings or is she really stupid? What a sickening person”, says Ingrid, for example.
Sad and painful
Desiree is completely slammed and portrayed as a kind of psychologically disturbed case. “Poor Desiree. I think she is autistic and tries very hard but can’t empathize with others and situations. Self-reflection is also not possible: no mirror neurons. Really sad and painful”, says Janneke.
And Laura: “Isn’t Desiree used to being an actress? How can such women really exist? If you see her in the picture for 30 seconds, you have a day job to calm down yourself.”
pickle quarrel
In particular, last Friday’s B&B Vol Liefde episode, the first week-end of this season, was much discussed. Desiree was very hysterical about the fact that there were no pickles in the house. She was then brutally attacked by fellow candidate Hayriye.
Hayrire exploded: “I think you’re really going too far. What’s so bad that the pickle isn’t in it? I really don’t understand what’s on your mind right now.”
Viewing rating snack
The big question in cases like this is always whether a lady like Desiree should not be protected from herself by a major media party like RTL. They see the raw images, they edit the whole thing and of course already know at that moment that Desiree is going to get a huge shit storm.
Journalist Ton F. van Dijk, former boss of NPO 1, thinks it is questionable. He says: “Television: so you have to bear in mind that this combination of people has been cast in advance by an editorial team in the hope that such a clash will then take place, because television. One thing is forgotten. This woman is being dismissed as a ‘snack’ for the ratings in front of a million people.”
