The offensive force had recently announced that it would stay with Werder despite offers from other clubs and that it would also accept a salary reduction. The legal footer is currently supposed to earn around 2.5 million euros a year, the “Sport Bild” recently speculated that both sides in the new contract from 2023 could agree on a sum of 1.7 to 2 million euros plus a success fee.
“It had already become apparent in the last few days that Niclas would like to stay and that we would like to extend his stay. We are therefore pleased that we have now been able to finalize the extension of his contract at short notice,” explained Clemens Fritz, Head of Professional Football & Scouting. “Niclas is an important part of our team. He is one of the experienced players in our young team and should lead the group,” added SVW coach Ole Werner.
Niclas Füllkrug returned to the Weser from Hannover 96 in 2019, where he wore the Werder jersey between 2006 and 2014. The attacker can look back on 135 games (47 goals) in the 2. Bundesliga so far, he has appeared 94 times in the Bundesliga and scored 28 goals. Regarding his extension on the Weser, the 29-year-old said: “I would like to continue to take on responsibility. I think it’s important, especially after promotion, that the guys who have already gained experience in the Bundesliga go ahead. With the extension of my contract, I would like to underline that to a certain extent.”
