The cabinet is already bringing forward half a billion euros from the nitrogen fund to implement plans by the provinces. Minister Christianne van der Wal reports this to the House of Representatives.
A number of provinces had already submitted plans to improve the state of “nature, water and climate”. The Wageningen Economic Research research institute has given a positive assessment. With an amount of 504 million euros, a number of nitrogen-saving plans of the provinces can already be implemented. Provinces still have less than a year to come up with area plans and the nitrogen fund must be in effect from 1 January 2024.
Plans have also been submitted to legalize so-called PAS reporters more quickly. Under the old policy, these farms were allowed to emit more nitrogen without a permit. They just had to report. Since the ruling of the Council of State in 2019, these reporters are now actually illegal. The cabinet would like to provide these companies with certainty and will obtain 250 million euros for this acceleration from a pot for the purchase scheme.
