Driver dies in serious accident on E40 in Beernem

At around 6 a.m., the vehicle veered off the highway and ended up in the ditch on the right side of the lane. The driver, a 56-year-old man, became unwell or fell asleep and lost control of the wheel. He died of his injuries. Three other passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One child was slightly injured.

“It concerns a Bulgarian family that was on its way to the coast,” confirms Jos Sypré, mayor of Beernem. A group of firefighters had to free the victims from the jammed car.
