Two German esports players have reached the round of 16 at the FIFA eWorld Cup in Copenhagen. Alongside German champion Dylan “DullenMike” Neuhausen, RB Leipzig’s Umut “Umut” Gültekin also qualified for the next round of the official World Cup in FIFA 22 on Friday.

The day was less successful for the two German players of VfL Bochum: Both Koray “Kkoray” Kücükgünar and Benedikt “BeneCR7” Bauer failed in the group stage. Donovan “Tekkz” Hunt, the international star of FIFA esports, was also eliminated surprisingly early.

32 eSportsmen had qualified for the tournament in Denmark. Only the top four of each group reached the knockout stage on Saturday, with the semi-finals and final on Sunday. The competition prize money is $500,000.

The world champion is the German Mohammed “MoAuba” Harkous, who was the first German to be crowned champion in 2019. The World Cup had been canceled for the past two years because of the corona pandemic.

The FIFA eWorld Cup marks the beginning of a series of tournaments in Copenhagen, followed by the Club World Cup (July 20-23) and finally the Nations Cup (July 27-30), in which national teams compete against each other.
