A fire in a pet store of Badal Street in Barcelona, in Sants, has ended this morning with the lives of hundreds of pets. Several crews from the Barcelona Bombers have worked to extinguish the flames, which has forced traffic on the street to be cut off. The causes of the fire are unknown.
The fire has been declared shortly after 11:00 p.m., BTV has reported. The extinction works have finished shortly after five in the morning. The closest neighbors were evicted from their homes and two of them received assistance due to smoke inhalation.
The Sants-Montjuïc district councilor, Marc Serra, has confirmed in a tweet on Twitter that practically all the animals in the store, Mon Animal, have died. It is a large establishment with a great diversity of animals among birds, reptiles and fish.
Nit dura avui pels veïns de #RamblaBadal to #LaBordeta. The fire has been extinguished by @BCN_Bombers sense q hi hagi veïns ferits de gravetat. However, we must regret the death of the animals that I had brought to the botiga. A comerç molt estimat al barri. They are investigating the causes. https://t.co/7hBbETfz8X
