135 Ukrainian refugees at work in Drenthe

At least 135 refugees from Ukraine have found work in Drenthe. This is reported by the UWV benefits agency on the basis of reports by employers.

According to the UWV, they mainly work through employment agencies. It is not known exactly what they do for temporary work. “In second place is the cleaning and cleaning sector. In addition, people still work in sawmills and industry, for example,” said the spokesperson.

A month ago, UWV reported that 99 Ukrainians were working in Drenthe at that time. There are also probably more than 135 refugees in employment. “These figures are based on reports from companies registered so far. The figures are always slightly behind, so this number will be even higher.”

Nationally, as far as is known, at least 24,000 refugees from Ukraine have found work in the Netherlands. The Ukrainians mainly found jobs in the hospitality industry and through employment agencies. Most refugees started work in and around Amsterdam and in the The Hague region.

Since the beginning of June, 10,800 new reports have been received at the UWV. In April and May there were 13,200 reports. Almost half of the refugees found a job through an employment agency. Ukrainians find work through the broadcasters, for example as production workers, cleaners and warehouse workers. Many refugees also find work in the hospitality industry (12 percent), in agriculture and horticulture (8 percent) and business services (5 percent).

Last March we spoke with Yana Shevchuck, who was then working in the Kampeerhal in Roden.
