Owner of Amsterdam brand My Brand arrested

The owner of Amsterdam clothing brand My Brand, Domenico G., has reportedly been arrested for money laundering and drug trafficking, local newspaper Het Parool reported on Wednesday. He is said to have reported to a police station in Amsterdam last Wednesday after his home was searched in June.

According to Het Parool, a search of the house in June found and confiscated €228,000 in cash. A firearm and luxury items were also found. He was presented to the judge last Friday. It was decided that the entrepreneur should be imprisoned for fourteen days. The police told the newspaper that further arrests are not excluded.

While Het Parool states that it is about My Brand and Domenico G., the prosecutor’s website only mentions that it is about a “successful Amsterdam clothing brand”. It is mentioned that the owner is 44 years old and lives in Purmerend (a town north of Amsterdam).

The My Brand brand was founded in 2010 by Domenico G. and his brother Giuseppe. My Brand is best known for its ‘bling-bling’ shirts. The t-shirts made fun of big fashion houses like Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent. In the meantime, the brand has evolved into full-fledged collections, still with plenty of ‘bling-bling’. At the time of an interview with FashionUnited in 2015, the brand had two stores – one in Amsterdam and one in Bogota, Colombia – and 450 points of sale.
