The monumental lime tree in the center of Den Bosch, which according to researchers was deliberately poisoned, will be cut down as soon as possible. The tree on Lepelstraat can no longer be saved. The perpetrator drilled holes in the tree, into which glyphosate was poured. As a result, the tree dies. The same glyphosate is also in the soil near the tree.
The tree has been in bad condition since September 2021, before that there was nothing wrong. Because there were holes in the tree and the bottom was hardened to a depth of 25 centimeters, the municipality commissioned a specialized company to investigate.
There is no explanation for the death of the tree other than poisoning, the researchers conclude. The tree is already dying. “There are no measures possible to improve the condition of the tree. Due to safety risks, it is necessary to cut the tree urgently,” is the advice.
The municipality is reporting the deliberate destruction of the tree. In the coming planting season, a new tree will come back for it.
