Germany wins top game against Spain and is in the quarterfinals

A huge mistake by the Spanish women ensured the early lead on the German side. Although Spain dominated the game, the DFB women won.

Germany stays on course for the women’s European Championship. Against Spain, the DFB selection got the second win in the second game with a 2-0 (2-0). Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s team impressed with efficiency on the offensive and good defensive work.

After a fatal bad pass by the Spaniards, Klara Bühl took her chance and made it 1-0 in the third minute. Alexandra Popp, who set up for Lea Schüller, who was suffering from Corona, increased to the final 2-0 in the 36th minute.

That’s how the game went

In front of 16,037 spectators at the Brentford Community Stadium, Spain, as expected, had more possession but Germany were more efficient. Bühl benefited from a blatant misplay by the Spanish goalkeeper when she scored the goal. Sandra Panos played the ball right in front of the Bayern striker’s feet. Her Wolfsburg teammate Felicitas Rauch provided the template for Popp’s goal with a corner kick.

In their third group game on Saturday in Milton Keynes, the DFB women will meet the Finns, who have already been eliminated and lost 1-0 to Denmark. In the first knockout round, the Germans, as group winners, will meet the runners-up in Group A (Norway or Austria) again in Brentford on July 21.
