Mid-term conclusion:
For Italy, 45 very bitter minutes come to an end. France lead 5-0 at half-time on Matchday 1 of Group D. So it already seems to be a question of how high the French will win this game. Italy was overwhelmed from the start by the skill of the Equipe Tricolore and had little to counter the attacks of the Diacre team. Geyoro with a hat-trick (9th, 40th, 45th), Cascarino (38th) and Katoto (12th) scored the goals. The Italians, on the other hand, didn’t really play well offensively either. We’re curious to see if Italy will react again after the change of sides. See you soon!

21:48
There’s another minute extra.

21:47
Official stoppage time (minutes): 1
45
21:46
Tooor for France, 5-0 by Grace Geyoro
France celebrate a goal festival in the first half. After winning the ball himself, Geyoro plays to the left to Toletti, who immediately looks back at the passing colleague. Geyoro completes the fifth hit from 14 meters with a touchdown.
43
21:44
Almost the 5:0. Diani pulls flat from a central position of 14 meters, but Giuliani fishes the ball out of the threatened right corner.
40
21:41
Tooor for France, 4-0 by Grace Geyoro
Now it’s already clear before the break! Two passes are enough to overturn the Italian defense. Katoto lets a pass to the center of Périsset immediately into Geyoro’s run, who then goes through freely. Alone in front of Giuliani, she stays cool, circles the goalkeeper and easily slides in to make it 4-0.
39
21:39
Tooor for France, 3-0 by Delphine Cascarino
Now Corinne Diacre’s team has added the third goal! Sakina Karchaoui plays from the wing to the left corner of the box to Delphine Cascarino. The winger takes two steps into the center and then sinks the ball into the bottom right of the net with a dry bounce from 20 meters!
37
21:38
Another conclusion. But Giuliani safely intercepts Geyoro’s flick from 17 meters.
36
21:38
In the last few minutes, however, the pace of the game has flattened out a bit. Italy can detach itself a little from the permanent French pressure.
33
21:36
Now France is once again going forward on the left side. Cascarino dribbles forward but then misses the timing of the cross. Italy’s defense is safe.
30
21:33
Half an hour is up. France still have everything under control and are currently closer to the third goal than Italy is to catch up.
28
21:30
Italy works out a corner on the right side. However, the French easily defended Giugliano’s cross.
25
21:27
Nice action by Cascarino. who pulls into the center from the left, but then aims a low shot to the left.
22
21:24
Again not the third hit! Diani plays a flat ball into the six-yard box from the left, where Katoto misses. Cascarino comes in at the second post, but she doesn’t hit the ball under pressure. There was more in it!
19
21:21
The 3:0 is in the air. Katoto puts a diagonal ball to the left into the penalty area again flat across the six-yard box, where Geyoro comes a step too late.
16
21:18
Yellow card for Lisa Boattin (Italy)
First yellow card for Boattin, which brings down Geyoro in midfield.
15
21:17
Almost the third goal for France! Again, Diani easily dribbles down the right side and crosses to the far post. There Cascarino puts his head in the middle again, where Katoto from five meters right post beheads!
12.
21:13
Tooor for France, 2-0 by Marie-Antoinette Katoto
In the early stages, France strikes twice! With a long ball, Karchaoui is sent to the baseline from the left and crosses flat into the center. Giuliani in Italy’s goal is unable to hold the ball, but only bounces it in front of Katoto’s feet, who effortlessly slides in from close range to make it 2-0.
9.
21:09
Tooor for France, 1-0 by Grace Geyoro
The early lead for France! Right-back Périsset drives the ball forward down the right flank and sends Diani up the wing steeply. Gama does not fully hit her cross when trying to clear and puts the ball right in front of Geyoro’s feet. The French finishes with a dry shot into the bottom left corner!
7.
21:08
Cascarino pulls in from the left and puts through for Katoto, who is clearly offside. The flag of the assistant rightly goes up.
4.
21:06
huge opportunity for Italy! Bonansea bursts into the penalty area from the left and comes clear in front of Peyraud-Magnin. She aims for the bottom left corner from ten meters out, but the France goalkeeper saves with a strong foot defence.
3.
21:05
First good chance for France! Toletti is sent into the penalty area with a great pass, but then drives a little too far to the outside. Her cross lands in detours in the backcourt at Bilbault, who aims well over it from the second row.
1.
21:02
The ball rolls! France kicked off in blue jerseys, Italy dressed all in white.
20:49
The game is tonight at New York Stadium in Rotherham. Referee is Rebecca Welch.
20:41
Italy, on the other hand, had to complain about a corona failure in advance. Midfielder Valentina Cernoia has to pass due to a positive corona test.
20:32
The French team is peppered with many top stars tonight as well. In central defence, 31-year-old Wendie Renard ensures order, while striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto should be known in Germany, above all for her brace in the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich.
20:21
The Italians, on the other hand, want to continue their great performance from the 2019 World Cup. Back then, the team advanced to the quarter-finals, losing 2-0 to the Netherlands. The players want to rekindle euphoria in their own country. “The Italian fans fell in love with us at the 2019 World Cup, why can’t they do the same this time?” said Barbara Bonansea.
20:10
With friendly victories against Cameroon (4-0) and Vietnam (7-0), the French gained a lot of self-confidence before the start of the tournament. What these two successes are worth in a European comparison will only be shown when the European Championships start. The Equipe Tricolore definitely belongs to the extended group of favourites. So there should be a win at the start against Italy. However, attacker Clara Matéo also warns of today’s opponent: “Italy is one of the nations that has been making significant progress for years. They are opponents to be taken very seriously.”
19:50
Welcome to the Women’s European Championship in England! In Group D, France and Italy compete today at the end of the first round of the preliminary round.
