The biker from Gorizia conquers the Lenzerheide stage in Switzerland: “It’s a dream, I still haven’t understood what I did, it will take some time to recover”
A historic victory: Italy returns to the top step of a Mtb World Cup event thanks to the feat of Luca Braidot in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, which came four years after the success of Gerhard Kerschbaumer in Vallnord (Andorra). The 31-year-old biker from Santa Cruz-Fsa was the protagonist of an exciting and uncertain race until the end: world champion Schurter and Fluckinger beaten. But it started badly: a pit stop when the whole group was still in line. From there the furious comeback started to take back the head with the world champion Schurter to lead: the victory in the sprint completed the feat.
A dream

“It’s a dream, I still haven’t understood what I did, I can’t find the words and I think it will take me some time to recover – those were Luca Braidot’s first words after the finish – the only thing I can say is thank you. ! Thanks to the team and to all the people who have always been close to me. It is a magical moment, the result of many sacrifices, a moment that I want to share with everyone !. The small inconvenience at the start forced me to reassemble immediately. I felt and my legs agreed with me. I got back under the leaders quite easily and from there I started doing my real race. At the end I reached the limit but Nino and Mathias exaggerated with overtaking until they touched each other and fell . I don’t know how I managed to avoid them because they were right in front of me. At that point I was first, I didn’t understand anything. I didn’t feel anything anymore. I just knew that on the last bridge I should have taken the curve in the best way to then make the most of the sprint everything perfect and beautiful “.
