Two underdog teams, Portugal and Switzerland, contested the opening match of Group C. They played an entertaining game.
In a gripping European Championship match, Portugal and Switzerland drew 2-2. After just five minutes, goals from Coumba Sow (2nd) and Rahel Kiwic (5th) looked like a clear affair for Switzerland.
But at the beginning of the second half, the Portuguese improved immensely. Portugal deservedly equalized through Diana Gomes (58′) and Jessica Silva (65′). Afterwards, Guilhermina Santos’ team even pushed for victory, but the Swiss also had their chances and hit the crossbar, among other things. The draw in the difficult Group C with the Netherlands and Sweden should not be enough for both teams. Portugal only moved up to the tournament in England after Russia was excluded.
