,,I am of course very happy”, Van Aert started his story. ,,The team has done everything it can to take back the leading group. It was a very difficult climb at the end. I really had to compete to be in the wheel of to stay with the riders of UAE. Then it got a bit flatter, I waited for that moment.”
Van Aert was also asked whether the victory in Lausanne had extra value for him. The Swiss city is also known as the ‘Olympic capital. ,,I didn’t really think of Lausanne’s Olympic status,” said Van Aert. ,,Winning in the Tour is wonderful anyway, it doesn’t matter where. I’m going to enjoy this.”
