A man wanted to travel from Werder (Havel) in Brandenburg to Berlin on the buffer of a regional train locomotive.
“He had previously taken the train, got off at Werder station without his luggage to get some fresh air – and then the doors closed,” said a spokesman for the Berlin Federal Police on Wednesday evening. Since the driver of the RE1 was initially unable to recognize the 54-year-old, the train left at around 5:15 p.m.
Then the passenger got up, the driver saw him and braked. The train had come to a standstill outside the station. “The man then hid between the locomotive and the first car in front of the driver,” said the federal police spokesman. Federal police officers finally took him into custody.
The train reversed back to the Werder (Havel) station – along with around 600 passengers. These had to change to the following trains, as the Berlin Federal Police announced on Wednesday evening via Twitter. “The driver could not continue after the incident,” said the spokesman. The deployment of the federal police ended around 7:00 p.m.
The 54-year-old is being investigated after the life-threatening action because of dangerous intervention in rail traffic. He was reportedly unharmed. The regional train takes about half an hour from Werder to Berlin.
