RIVM: peak of summer wave coronavirus may be in sight Inland

The institute registered 39,283 positive tests in the past seven days. That is 15 percent more than the week before. The number of new cases is rising for the fifth week in a row. “So the number of infections is still rising, but the increase has been less rapid in the past two weeks. This may indicate that we are approaching the peak of the summer wave.”

The institute has a site where people can report whether they have corona complaints. The number of reports stabilizes on the Infection Radar. In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, the number of virus particles in the sewage is stabilizing.

Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, 6664 infections came to light. That is the highest number since April 8, almost three months ago. There were 387 new cases in Amsterdam, 193 in The Hague, 168 in Utrecht and 122 in Rotterdam.

RIVM only registers positive results from corona tests that have been carried out in the test streets of the GGDs. Positive self-tests are not included. So in reality, more people may have found out in the past week that they have contracted the coronavirus.

The pressure on hospitals continues to increase. Last week the complaints of 462 people were so bad that they had to be hospitalized. That is the highest number since the first half of April, almost three months ago. RIVM received 30 reports of deaths from corona, twice as many as last week.

The GGDs carried out 48,114 tests last week, the highest number since the beginning of April. In 71 percent, the tested person turned out to actually have the virus. That is the highest percentage ever.
