Rico Verhoeven has his first leading role in international film

Rico Verhoeven from Halsteren has landed his first leading role in a major international feature film. He plays the main role in the international action film Black Lotus by the Bulgarian director Todor Chapkanov. The recordings take place at several locations in Europe. Monday was filmed in Amsterdam, where Verhoeven, among other things, jumped from a bridge on a moving car.

The kickboxer has hinted at an acting career abroad several times in recent years. Until now, he played bit parts in a few Dutch productions, such as Bon Bini Holland 3, which is now in cinemas.

The eleven-time kickboxing world champion takes on the role of special forces officer Matteo Donner in Black Lotus. After his best friend is killed on a joint mission, he struggles with guilt and roams the world.

Flying Bullets
In the streets and canals of Amsterdam he ends up in a one-man war with explosions, flying bullets and crashing cars. Donner has only one goal: to save the kidnapped daughter of his dead friend.

Other actors in the English spoken film are Roland Møller, Rona-Lee Shimon and Kevin Janssens, known from the Netflix hit Undercover. The rest of the cast will be announced shortly.

Distributor Dutch FilmWorks will release the feature film with Rico Verhoeven in Dutch cinemas in 2023. The film is supported by the Netherlands Film Fund.
