Farmers’ action group Farmers Defense Force (FDF) has ‘no idea’ about the actions against the nitrogen policy announced for next Monday. “But that something will happen, that’s for sure. You read and hear that everywhere,” FDF Vice-President Jos Ubels told the ANP on Saturday.
Farmers call on Telegram via chat app, among other things, to participate in a large-scale action. Calls are made to ‘flatten the whole of the Netherlands’. Actions have been announced at supermarket distribution centers and Eindhoven Airport, among other things.
Farmers Defense Force previously said it would not coordinate any actions. It is therefore unclear what exactly will happen, says spokeswoman Sieta van Keimpema: “We have no more insight into that than what is going around on social media.”
‘Chaos theory in action’
Foreman Mark van den Oever also speaks of ‘individual actions’ and states that ‘the chaos theory will be in effect’ on Monday. Bart Kemp, leader of the action group Agractie, has no idea what the plans of farmers’ activists are. He does expect it to be ‘a lot, big and in many places’, he told the ANP on Saturday.
Logistics company Jan de Rijk warns customers
The large logistics company Jan de Rijk from Roosendaal has warned customers that the actions may lead to delays in truck journeys. Director Fred Westdijk informed his customers on Friday.
Westdijk may have adjustments made to the routes that are driven on Monday on the day itself. But it is still too early for such measures, he says. This is because the locations and scope of the actions are not yet clear.
Jan de Rijk transports numerous products in the Netherlands itself and to and from other European countries on a daily basis. Certain air freight shipments, for example, are transported by road to Schiphol by Jan de Rijk. The company also supplies several retail chains.
Farmers had an emotional conversation with provincial administrator Elies Lemkes-Straver on Tuesday during protest at the provincial government house in Den Bosch.
