Fairy tale Lipiäinen ran a 100 kilometer run to become Finnish champion in Salo.
Lipiäinen, 26, won the race with a new Finnish record time of 7 hours, 41 minutes and 54 seconds.
Lipiäinen also beat the men in the race. In the men’s series, he became the Finnish champion Mikko Sallinen with a time of 8 hours and 33 seconds.
The competition took place in really hot conditions. The competition, which usually runs at night, started at nine in the morning, so that it could be televised more easily as part of Yleisradio’s SM week broadcasts. During the competition, the thermometer showed readings of almost 30 degrees.
Lipiainen didn’t care about this. He healed Noora Honkala old SE readings at 1 minute 34 seconds.
This year, the 100-kilometer run received the title of an official SC competition for the first time.
